We spent an hour on the beach dipping our toes in the cold waters of the Gulf of Mexico before retreating to the shady sandbox playground.

Maykaka State Park is home to between 500 to 1000 alligators, so it is a great place to see some up close There were tons of the large prehistoric guys, wild pigs, and birds. We were lucky to see one of the 12 pairs of nesting Bald Eagles.
